Mobile Text Alert Service

We have a new service that allows you to sign up for Mobile Text Alerts (or email if you prefer).   We will use this to remind you of important deadlines, trip pickup times, as well as any last minute changes for Troop meetings and travel. The service is provided free of charge by RainedOut.com, originally created for the recreation/sporting leagues, but can be used by anyone for any purpose. Sign up on the web on RainedOut.com or Text TROOP614 to 84483 to receive alerts from Troop 614.

New Campout Policy

Beginning with the May 16th camp out (Hanging Rock State Park) our troop will require scouts that are attending to turn in a signed Trip Permission Form and also turn in a $10 deposit (cash please), two weeks in advance. We have had several issues with last minute planning that made the change in policy  required. The $10 deposit will be turned over to each patrol cook for food supplies on the evening we leave for the camp out (scouts will then plan to bring a few additional dollars for supplies if needed (most camp out food costs are between $8-16 per scout).

Meeting Times

Scouts need to attend troop meetings from start to finish (7:00-8:30). We ask that scouts try to beClock_s on time and stay until closing. The problem we are having is scouts showing up late and leaving early, which is resulting in the scout missing very important information that is shared in the beginning of the meeting and at the end of the meeting. As a troop we will try to follow the designated time the meeting is scheduled (again this is 7-8:30) and ask parents not to come to pick up scouts before “Circle Up” which signifies the end of our troop meeting.

Advancement – Active Participation

BoyScoutRanksAdvancement to Star, Life, and Eagle requires active participation and leadership in the troop.  For Troop 614, active participation means that a Scout must attend at least 2/3 of troop meetings and 1/2 of troop activities during the advancement period.  Should a break in attendance occur, we will count that period up until the break and resume after participation resumes.  Successful service in a troop leadership position will require the Scout to set goals with the Scoutmaster and an evaluation of performance towards meeting those goals. Service projects outside the troop must be reviewed with Scoutmaster prior to and following the service project.
