Pilot Mountain Camping May 2013

Highlights of this trip include :

  • Driving through a creek 3 times to get to the campsite
  • Camping right next to the creek (a magnet for the boys)
  • Wildlife : Snakes, cicadas, turtles, deer, a braying donkey, cicadas, a beaver, the 4am rooster, more cicadas (these things were everywhere !)
  • Getting lucky with the weather – a very wet forecast turned into a nice weekend with only a few hours of rain.
  • A strenuous hike to the top of Pilot Mountain – different routes chosen by the patrols required either distance endurance or steep inclines, sometimes both.  The view from the top was well worth it !
  • The Scout Masters taking the dessert competition with their Pineapple Upside-down Cake – second place goes to the Flaming Arrow Patrol.
  • A dry morning to break camp and scouts that were on the ball and did not have to be pushed to meet our schedule – a job well done !
